I can not remember a time when music was not part of my life. It is the Hallelujah Chorus of my soul that plays on, with or without words, bringing refreshment, healing, and salvation to me and prayerfully, those around me.
"He Knew me before I was formed," said the Lord himself, put this talent in my soul. He created the music. Then my mother, Joyce, a gifted soprano, watered the seed with her own melodious voice while in the womb, and daily after with tender hymns and Bible stories to let me know that I was created by God and loved. I was the blessed one in the family of five children to receive her precious Gift of Voice.
Growing up on a farm with the support of a loving, Christian family, I grew in the world of the Bible and beautiful, life-altering hymns. I was nurtured and loved in this world. I was singing in school and church choirs at seven years old. I vividly remember my grandmother, Elsie Johnson, teaching me my first hymn to sing in the public.
County chorus and leads in church musicals gave me stage presence to move on to larger audiences in college. At Palm Beach Atlantic College I started to realize that God had a plan for my voice to serve Him around the world with healing and salvation for the field that "was white unto harvest." I had the privilege of having the leads in "New Group," as well as performing acapella in Chamber Choir. Often, I was asked to perform for various professional women's groups, like Zonta. In addition to my church and college affiliated singing, I was honored with the leads in the secular world, singing in Annie Get Your Gun, Godspell, West Side Story, as well as Bill Gaither's Alleluhia.
One of the highlights of my singing career was the honor of placing in the top 60 out of 2,500 for the Gifted and Talent Search Contest for Christian Artists. In addition to this, I graduated near the top of my class at Palm Beach Atlantic College in business management with minors in music, voice, and physical education.
He "guides and directs my footsteps," as well as my voice, so I owe this voice and CD titled Helping Others all to Him. I pray you find the Music of My Daystar.
